Pro:-Cheap -Build as a tank, with excellent ergonomics -usuable to iso800 (for bigger then 10x15cm pictures) -spotmeting -SD cards -battery performance
Con:- 6mp (for most this is NOT a downfall, not many people need more then 6 mp) - not everything accesable with dedicated buttons, so you need to use the menu - screwdrive aint to fast -2.5fps, should be enough for 95% of the people though -ISO settings are a stop each (200,400,800,1600)
Review:It's one of the cheapest Dslr. It's biggest compettitor is the 350D and the new 400D, but it has a far better ergnomics and feel far better build. No sharp edges. It has spotmeting, which i use alot, especially when i do macro. It has good focussing, but if you have an AF lens and it needs the D50 screwdriver, dont expect USM speeds of canon. It doenst hunt often, but when it does, it takes it's time (relative). I love the camera, people ask me why i didnt buy the D70 or go for canon. Easy, it's cheap and it does what i want. When you think hard at what you really need in a camera, almost all will be pleased with the D50 and have money left for a decent lens, cause that will give you much better improvement then a body. Buy a body that does what you need, but it's the lens that will give you the final result. Creative lighting, behaving as a master for other flashes, DoF-preview, 11 point focus area's for focussing etc. That's all very nice and no doubt you might use it once or twice (for most people that is), but it isn't a requirement for 95% of your shots. Get the body you really use to it's potential and avoid super mega zoom lenses and get some decent glas. I have never doubted after my purchase, this D50 serves me well, only lacking in mp's, but i sell photo's for poster size prints and come short sometimes, but hey, those arent my everyday shots :) Got to have something to wish for (D200) I recommend this body for practically everyone, unless you really now what you want from a camera and know this camera cant get you there. Its the man that makes pictures, not the camera
