IF

A lot of the somewhat more expensive lenses are equipped with an internal focus (IF) mechanism. The lens elements that take care of the focussing are being moved internally, rather than externally, which causes a faster focus and a non-rotating front element. Using a polarizer becomes a lot easier.

Image Stabilizer

The Image Stabilizing (IS) system counters the natural handshake that humans have in their hands. It works with two gyroscopes that detect the movement and to move a lens group to counter the movement. There currently are two versions: The first generation of IS delivered an advantage of two stops, the newer IS-system delivers three stops.
