Macro

True macro lenses deliver a 1:1 or 1x reproduction ratio; a subject as large as your sensor or film can fill the frame completely. In case of a 35x24mm film, the subject that fills the frame completely is exactly as large as the film. Nowadays there are a lot of consumer lenses that pretend to be a macro lens, but most of them can go as far as a 1:2 or 0.5x reproduction ratio. That is why they aren’t considered to be true macro lenses, along with the loss of sharpness when compared to an average true macro lens.
