Yourlensreview - Lens - Canon EF 100 F/2.8 Macro USM

Great Macro lens.  Great color, contrast, sharpness.  Quick focus and solid build.

Not a good telephoto lens.

I have been into photography for two years.  Got the 100mm f/2.8 macro Xmas 07.  Have been trying to find
bugs ever since. Can't wait till the weather gets a little warmer and they all come out. I love this lens, absolutely no regrets.  It works well for close ups too.

About as sharp as it gets
Basically NO distortions or CA
Usable without the tripod collar on my 20D
Perfect portraits from 8" onward
No Rotation or Extension

Might be nice to get a hood and tripod collar for a little more money

not as quick to focus as 100 f2 or 135 f2 for example - especially if subject is out of current range or lighting is low.  When near the range then focus is quick.

Not as quick focus as some - but the best of the various brands macros

NO I.S - it would be worth another $500 to me

this is a reference lens for sharpness offering great clarity, even with a tamron sp pro 1.4x TC.  I get beautiful portraits of people and bug faces.

I get very sharp, very low CA, very good color/contrast.
