Sony develops 12.5 megapixel 10fps CMOS sensor

In the ongoing battle between Canon and Sony for the sensor market, Sony has released a new sensor: a 12.5 megapixel CMOS sensor: the IMX021. Most of the sensors from Sony were CCD's, but Sony claims this new CMOS sensor delivers superior quality.

The sensor can deliver 10 frames per second at 12.5 megapixel. For every column of pixels there is now an A/D converter and they work parallel to each other. The result is that the signal doesn't have to travel as far and that can result in less signal degradation (means less noise).

The sensor can be delivered in small quantities for 40.000 Yen (about 260 Euro),
