Nikon D3 announced: Nikon goes full frame

After two years of rumors, Nikon has finally did it: they are going full frame with the announcement of the new D3 camera. It uses an 12.1 megapixel full frame CMOS sensor. This long awaited professional camera features the following highlights:

  • 12.1 megapixel full frame CMOS sensor
  • 9fps (11fps in cropped mode)
  • DX lenses are usable in crop mode
  • New auto focus system with 51 points (15 cross sensors)
  • 3" LCD with 307.200 pixels
  • Live view
  • Sensor cleaning system
  • Virtual Horizon
  • Dual compact flash card slots

The camera will be available in November at a price around $5000.
